Comparing Tablets With Laptops - Who Wins?

'Tablets' is one of the trendiest tech topics around. A tablet is a small and flat touch screen device. It's like a slate and let's you interact with digital content using your fingertips. Unlike a traditional laptop that has a physical keyboard and perhaps a mouse, you're navigating using your fingers. They are small portable and lightweight devices you can use to access your important information like email, surf the web, play games, listen to music and so on.

There are 6 key advantages to a tablet over a laptops, even though they don't quite replace them.
More Battery Life - When it comes to battery life, laptops can be a huge power guzzler. After watching an hour or two of watching a movie or a few hours of working on documents you're going to need an outlet to power it up. Tablets on the other hand, tend to have over more battery life, making them handy to take on long trips. Tablets have great battery life as compared to laptops. Instead of only getting 3 or 4 hours, depending on what you're doing with the tablet and how many wireless radios are on, you get 10-12 hours of battery. This is 3 times on average longer than most laptop batteries.

Touch Screen Interface - Tablets have touch screen interface, which is very intuitive. You use your fingertip to navigate through all the content and it's very comfortable. You can place a tablet in the hands of a 4 year old or a 94 year old and they'll instantly figure out what to do. It's a very natural extension of your body.

Easy to Install Applications - It's very easy to choose and install softwares from the online stores that the tablets are connected to. It could be anything from games to productivity tools. You don't have to worry about complicated installation files or anything like that. It just works.
They turn on instantly - You have to wait for your laptops to boot up. When you press the on button on a tablet it just starts right away, much like a cell phone. This is really convenient when you want some information fast.

Tablets are more conducive - Last but not least, the tablet is more conducive for some tasks than others when you talk about computers. For e.g. reading an ebook is something you wouldn't look to your laptop to do, but if you got a 7-10 inch tablet in your purse or in your jacket pocket and you're riding the train to work, it makes for a great ebook reader. Reading downloaded ebooks is the kind of application you'd turn to a table for over a laptop. Most tablets can also take photos or shoot videos.

Laptops are Awkward to Log Around - On the downside although laptops are designed for
portability, they can be a little bit awkward to log around. Most laptops weigh anywhere from 3 to 9 pounds which can put a strain on your back and shoulders when carrying them around all day or travelling with them. Tablets on the other hand are extremely thin and light weight often weighing less than about a pound and you can easily slip them in your briefcase or backpack.
Advantages of Laptop over a tablet

Physical Keyboard - A desired feature for many individuals looking for a portable computing device, is having a physical keyboard to type on. The laptop keyboard is ideal for fast and efficient typing while working on the go. Something you can't archive on a tablets touch screen. However you can get bluetooth keyboard to sync with your tablet and acquire some of that same keyboard functionality.
Larger Screen - When it comes to entertainment on the go, you can't beat the large screen of the laptop, averaging about 15 inches, vs a significantly smaller tablet usually maxing out at about 10 inches. Laptops also have a higher screen resolution which makes them great for watching movies and playing games.

More Storage - Laptops also have larger amounts of storage so you can easily take all of your files with you wherever you go. An average tablet has about 32GB of storage compared to laptops that start at usually 320GB of storage.

Better Connectivity - When it comes to connectivity, many tablets aren't equipped with the amount of chords that you get on your laptop which can limit some of it's functionality.
Bottom line, tablets are now being designed to fill the role of a laptop performing many of the same functions and some added ones like taking photos and shooting video or reading an ebook. But when it comes to storage, connectivity and larger screen, nothing beats your handy dandy notebook.

What is Universal Serial Bus?

One of the most useful inventions of recent times that are connected to computers and digital data is a Universal Serial Bus or USB which can be used to store any kind of data in its memory. This USB has an interesting history and one has to note the difference in a memory stick that has been attached via USB and the USB itself. Things came to a head when many electronic corporations found that their devices required connection with a computer but could not find a single port for all their devices. This was because each company had an individual kind of connector and it was not possible for all these electronic companies to expect computer manufacturers to accommodate their particular kind of connection. Therefore in the year 1994, personnel from seven corporations namely Compaq, DEC, Intel, Nortel, IBM, Microsoft and NEC came together to design a common portal through which it was possible to connect external devices and memory devices to one's computer. The aim of all this was...

Benefits of WAN Routers

A router is a device that forwards date packets between computer networks, creating an overlay internetwork. A router is connected to two or more data lines from different networks. When a data packet comes in one of the lines, the router reads the address information in the packet to determine its ultimate destination. Then, using information in its routing table, the router directs the packet to the next network on its journey. Routers are used in homes across the world, as well as businesses. However, WAN routers are typically used with bigger businesses.   A WAN router is a router used for a wide area network (WAN). It facilitates the transmission of multiple data streams between a company's enterprise locations to its branch location, for example, which use smaller capacity branch routers. A WAN router aggregates traffic from multiple access routers, either at the same site, or to collect the data streams from multiple sites. WAN routers typically have a great deal o...

What is a VPN?

The initials VPN stand for the term Virtual Private Network. The aim and simple concept of a Virtual Private Network is that it provides users with the ability to access a private network (and therefore individual computers and servers on a private network) from a remote unsecured point outside of that network, without compromising the security of the private network itself.   In effect a VPN creates a tunnel through unsecured networks, which clients can use to access their private network without interference from the rest of the unsecured networks. As VPNs therefore have to transmit private information across unsecured networks such as the world wide web, they need to ensure that the data exchanged across these networks is kept secure by employing a combination of encryption on the data packets and authentication to allow access to only those users with permission.   Using these secure data packets VPN services can therefore be used to transmit any kind of dat...

Information Technology - How To Prevent Data Loss

In the utilization of computers, the consequences of losing data may be very grave. Loss of data can occur as a consequence of the following events: - Human being errors including: 1. Accidental reformatting of a hard drive 2. Intentional deletion of crucial data 3. Unintentional deletion of vital data - Hard disk and storage drive failures including: 1. RAID (Redundant Array of Independent Disks) crash 2. NAS (Network-attached storage) Crash 3. Server|Computer server} failure - Natural causes and physical damages - Application software failure and Filesystem corruption - Malicious intrusion and virus attacks The unquestionable fact is that current technology offer high-level data recovery applications at all levels. It doesn't matter the kind of media concerned, the brand of PC system, the operating system platform or the capacity of the PC server, in many cases, data is recoverable. However, the consequences of information loss can every so often be immense, when you take into...
