Comparing Tablets With Laptops - Who Wins?

'Tablets' is one of the trendiest tech topics around. A tablet is a small and flat touch screen device. It's like a slate and let's you interact with digital content using your fingertips. Unlike a traditional laptop that has a physical keyboard and perhaps a mouse, you're navigating using your fingers. They are small portable and lightweight devices you can use to access your important information like email, surf the web, play games, listen to music and so on.

There are 6 key advantages to a tablet over a laptops, even though they don't quite replace them.
More Battery Life - When it comes to battery life, laptops can be a huge power guzzler. After watching an hour or two of watching a movie or a few hours of working on documents you're going to need an outlet to power it up. Tablets on the other hand, tend to have over more battery life, making them handy to take on long trips. Tablets have great battery life as compared to laptops. Instead of only getting 3 or 4 hours, depending on what you're doing with the tablet and how many wireless radios are on, you get 10-12 hours of battery. This is 3 times on average longer than most laptop batteries.

Touch Screen Interface - Tablets have touch screen interface, which is very intuitive. You use your fingertip to navigate through all the content and it's very comfortable. You can place a tablet in the hands of a 4 year old or a 94 year old and they'll instantly figure out what to do. It's a very natural extension of your body.

Easy to Install Applications - It's very easy to choose and install softwares from the online stores that the tablets are connected to. It could be anything from games to productivity tools. You don't have to worry about complicated installation files or anything like that. It just works.
They turn on instantly - You have to wait for your laptops to boot up. When you press the on button on a tablet it just starts right away, much like a cell phone. This is really convenient when you want some information fast.

Tablets are more conducive - Last but not least, the tablet is more conducive for some tasks than others when you talk about computers. For e.g. reading an ebook is something you wouldn't look to your laptop to do, but if you got a 7-10 inch tablet in your purse or in your jacket pocket and you're riding the train to work, it makes for a great ebook reader. Reading downloaded ebooks is the kind of application you'd turn to a table for over a laptop. Most tablets can also take photos or shoot videos.

Laptops are Awkward to Log Around - On the downside although laptops are designed for
portability, they can be a little bit awkward to log around. Most laptops weigh anywhere from 3 to 9 pounds which can put a strain on your back and shoulders when carrying them around all day or travelling with them. Tablets on the other hand are extremely thin and light weight often weighing less than about a pound and you can easily slip them in your briefcase or backpack.
Advantages of Laptop over a tablet

Physical Keyboard - A desired feature for many individuals looking for a portable computing device, is having a physical keyboard to type on. The laptop keyboard is ideal for fast and efficient typing while working on the go. Something you can't archive on a tablets touch screen. However you can get bluetooth keyboard to sync with your tablet and acquire some of that same keyboard functionality.
Larger Screen - When it comes to entertainment on the go, you can't beat the large screen of the laptop, averaging about 15 inches, vs a significantly smaller tablet usually maxing out at about 10 inches. Laptops also have a higher screen resolution which makes them great for watching movies and playing games.

More Storage - Laptops also have larger amounts of storage so you can easily take all of your files with you wherever you go. An average tablet has about 32GB of storage compared to laptops that start at usually 320GB of storage.

Better Connectivity - When it comes to connectivity, many tablets aren't equipped with the amount of chords that you get on your laptop which can limit some of it's functionality.
Bottom line, tablets are now being designed to fill the role of a laptop performing many of the same functions and some added ones like taking photos and shooting video or reading an ebook. But when it comes to storage, connectivity and larger screen, nothing beats your handy dandy notebook.
